Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator

Job Summary

This position is responsible for assisting the safety manager in developing and maintaining a culture of safety at Kettle Cuisine – Savage. An individual in this position will be expected to perform additional job-related responsibilities and duties throughout the facility as assigned and/or as necessary.

 

Role and Responsibilities

The primary role of the Environmental, Health and Safety Coordinator (EH&S Coordinator) will be to maintain and enforce safety and health policies/standards, and standard loss prevention polices for Kettle Cuisine – Savage, MD.  The EH&S Coordinator at Kettle Cuisine – Savage supports the Environmental, Health, Safety and Security Programs along with upholding the covered process safety of highly hazardous chemicals for the facility. Ensures, promotes, and continuously strives for a safe, secure, and healthy environment company-wide, while monitoring compliance of all applicable laws. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Track and report key metrics in the area of safety incidents

·        Participate in the investigation of accidents, injuries, theft and security breaches to determine root cause and future means of prevention

  • Analyze OSHAs’ injury and illness records to direct the implementation of specific loss prevention programs to prevent reoccurrence

·        Ensure regular and on-going health and safety activities are conducted and followed through on

·        Supports initiatives that drive improvements in Health and Safety compliance and performance across the operation

·        Assist in injury investigations and maintain an OSHA 300 log

·        Assist with activities pertaining to fire safety, including involvement with fire drills

·        Support emergency response activities as a member of the first responder team

·        Interfaces with managers, supervisors, and employees on safety/environmental issues

·        Ammonia response activities as a member of the emergency response team

·        Participate and eventually conduct accident investigations with supervisors

·        Participates in company-wide special projects as required

·        All other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED
  • Required OSHA 10 certification (OSHA 30 preferred)
  • 1-3 years of safety-related experience
  • High proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs such as PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable speaking to groups
  • OSHA 30, CPR and first aid, AED certified – preferred but not required
  • Experience with LOTO, Confined Space, and PSM – preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of wastewater and storm water regulations – preferred but not required
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and leadership
  • Enthusiasm for learning and growing in EH&S

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT

Physical Demands/Efforts

·        Work requires occasional physical exertion, including some lifting of objects weighing up to 40 pounds.

Mental & Visual Demands

·        Work performed by this position requires moderate concentration to effectively execute moderately complex tasks.

·        Work occasionally requires some degree of visual effort for periods of time.

Work Environment and Hazards

·        Employee works in a manufacturing setting with some exposure to heat, cold, dust, or other factors of minor inconvenience.

·        The position has some exposure to hazards that might cause minor injury.

·        Less than 20% travel is required for this position.

·        May need to work weekends or overtime as required.
