Quality Control Technician

The Primary function of the Quality Control technician is to conduct routine lab analysis during all phases of the production process. Attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, and accurately document results are essential to the job. Quality Control Technician hours are approximately for first shift 4:00am - 12:30pm or for second shift 12:30pm – 9:30pm. Overtime in this position is probable and schedule may change due to business needs.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

o Quality o Follow HACCP standards as defined by written procedures o Attend QC related training o Participate in annual GMP training o Ensure batch sheets are correct o Ensure that all employees follow GMP’s and ensure effectiveness of training during daily inspections o Daily testing of water, plus sending water & other environmental samples for testing to an outside lab on a monthly basis o Inspection of registered glass & brittle plastic in the Processing Area on a bi-weekly basis (light protection monthly) o Perform pre-operational inspection o Verify refrigerators are operating at correct temperature daily. o Inspect waste bins daily & monitor accumulation of outside dumpster. o Inspect storage method, process, & handling of allergens during Daily Inspection o Release hold ingredients after confirmed C of A is correct o Organize documents on a weekly basis o Verify monitoring activities o Provide input on recall / withdrawal situations o Perform second check of outgoing shipments leaving the facility o Prepare shelf life samples based on the matrix given by the QA Manager o In process testing of product samples to ensure that they are within specifications (Quality or Samples) o Maintain / organize retain samples for all products produced o Send out a sample of every batch of retail & industrial finished products made to an outside lab for testing o Labels: o Prepare or verify labels for finished products o Double check labels & packaging information o Destroy all excess & out of date labels o Equipment: o Check daily calibration of standard thermometers against certified equipment o Check control panel thermometer against Standard Thermometer daily o Verify QC lab scale against a certified weight daily o Calibrate standard thermometer daily against NIST certified thermometer o Calibrate pH, salt, & brix meters daily o Perform hourly inspections on packaging machines o Additional responsibilities as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

o 1- 2 years of Quality Control experience in food manufacturing preferred o Basic Understanding of GMPs o Some basic labeling experience preferred o Strong written and communication skills at all levels o Strong computer skills, such as excel, word, and internet o Knowledge of Food Processing equipment REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES o Have strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work in a team environment o Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner o Detail oriented and highly organized o Self-starter with the ability to multi-task o Ability to gather and analyze data to reach decisions o Positive and motivational attitude leading to the overall success of the team

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a Quality Control Technician encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. o Physical Demands/Efforts o Work requires occasional physical exertion including some lifting of objects weighing up to 35 pounds o Willing and able to stand for long periods of time o Willing and able to sit occassionally o Willing and able to walk to other areas of the plant often o Willing and able to type on computer for extended amount of time o Mental & Visual Demands o Work performed by this position requires a significant level of mental concentration to manage multiple complex tasks. o Work requires continuous visual effort for extended periods of time. o Work Environment and Hazards o Employee works in a manufacturing setting with frequent exposure to heat/cold, dust, or other factors that may require protective equiptment and still pose a hazard. o This position has regular exposure to hazards that could result in significate injury and lengthy loss of time at work.
