JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the three-shift operation and coordination of the Packaging Department. Direct reports are the three Packaging Managers. Primary objective is to ensure continuous improvement and efficient operation of the Packaging department to meet customer requirements in accordance with Safety, Quality, Service and Cost. Manage, coach, and develop direct reports to achieve day to day KPIs and long-term improvement. A business unit manager also provides suggestions, offers solutions to problems, handles tasks delegation, planning production processes, and coaching and monitoring of employees in the packaging segment of the business.

PROCESS IMPROVEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop best practices and standardization across department.

• Develop continuous improvement plans to improve Safety, Hygiene/Sanitation, Quality, Quantity and Cost.

• Manage coordination of packaging process for scheduled completion during shift, week, and long term. • Assist in ideation, development and execution of capital and expense projects.

• Responsible for attainment of KPI’s (e.g., gallons per labor hour, cost per pound), department budget and generation of performance data

. • Develop long term plans, including capital, expense, and operational, to drive long term performance gains and improved operating cost.

• Oversee 5S efforts in department and align area ownership goals for department safety and quality.

• Manage ERP system transactions and manage inventory under area of control. LEADERSHIP

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist and develop managers for accident prevention mindset, and behavior-based safety environment. Proper completion of accident reports and follow-ups for safety incidents

• Responsible for the development of the Packaging Managers and their teams

• Work with Engineering and Maintenance on improvement projects and capital projects.

• Work directly with QA and technical personnel on addressing and resolving deficiencies.

• Ensure all food safety standards and guidelines are followed, including Safe Quality Food (SQF), USDA and FDA. • Work directly with NPD/R&D personnel on new product launches and trials

MUST HAVE QUALIFICATION

S • Requires 4-7 years of experience; to include 5 years manufacturing management experience preferably in the food industry.

• Must have cross-shift/24-hour operation responsibility experience

• Strong leadership and communication skills and experience with multiple supervisors or managers with large groups

• Lean manufacturing experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS BUT NOT REQUIRED

Bachelor’s Degree

• Prior experience with ERP system

• Ability to work flexible hours to ensure continuity across shifts

• Experience and practical application of LEAN principles (5S, RCA, Waste Elimination)

• Passion for food and high quality

• Budgeting and P&L skills, to include cost control and labor allocation

• Experience with seasonal workforce and temp workforce

• Lean manufacturing training certification

• Bilingual (English and Spanish or Portuguese)

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

• Employee works in manufacturing setting with frequent exposure to cold, heat, dust, loud sounds, or other factors that may require PPE.

• Limited travel may be required

• This position requires walking and involvement on the production floor, office meetings and ongoing interaction and collaboration with peers, direct reports, and senior management.
