Black Lentil Dahl - I am amazed by its authentic Indian flavor profile.
Who or what do you find inspiration from?
My Mom - no one puts more love in their food than she does. And she's also the most positive and electrifying woman I know with an infectious laugh that will guarantee put a smile on anyone's face. She is the strength of our family and the glue that keeps us together.
What is your favorite kitchen utensil or appliance?
A good sharp knife- My husband does all the chopping in our home as long as he has a sharp knife to work with.
What ingredient do you most often use in your home cooking?
Turmeric- its revered as a sacred root in India for its incredible health benefits and taste, due in large part to the miraculous compound curcumin.
What is your earliest childhood memory that speaks to your love of making or eating food?
I grew up in India where food plays an integral role in the culture, religion and everyday life. I have fond memories of bazaars lined with piles of colorful spices, fresh vegetables being sold of carts- every day was a farmers market and the indulgent street foods that tasted better than any fine dining restaurant.
What is your all time favorite food indulgence?
There is something about a yummy slice of pizza (New York style) that just really hits the spot for me.
