Assistant Controller

Roles and Responsibilities

  • The Assistant Controller will be responsible for preparing and consolidating weekly P&Ls and monthly financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow) as well as managing all aspects of the general ledger for four manufacturing sites with an emphasis on timeliness, accuracy, and insightful analysis The ideal candidate has 8+ years of relevant accounting/controlling experience and strong systems skills spanning Excel, ERP, and SQL
  • Financial Statements. The Assistant Controller handles the day-to-day financial activities which includes but is not limited to managing the weekly P&Ls, month end close process, accruals, account balance/variance analysis, and the like. The AC also prepares accurate site-specific and consolidated financial statements which includes review and analysis. Working with the Corporate Controller and CFO the AC will develop the message and presentation at the weekly P&L reviews and at monthly department spending meetings
  • Business Partner to Managers and Teams. The Assistant Controller must analyze data, but much more importantly, he/she must convert that data into information. This entails summarizing and drawing conclusions from analysis to help other managers and teams drive down costs and improve our working capital investment
  • Audit and Tax The Assistant Controller will be a major player in the day-to-day of the financial audit and be responsible for adhering to the timeline in the audit schedule, providing the necessary schedules in a usable form and coordinating all requests for information
  • Process Improvement. Review processes to propose and implement improvements, simplifying and automating as needed to result in greater efficiency and effectiveness to do more without adding resources. It is important to stress that the Assistant Controller must lead and champion the initiatives through to successful implementation
  • Managing Staff The Assistant Controller is responsible for managing and continuing to develop two Senior Accountants centralized in Lynn, and potentially others in the future as the company grows. The AC must ensure that the appropriate accounting methods, policies, and procedures are adhered to, with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
  • Support The Assistant Controller is in a support role and, as such, must support other functions The other support role is that to the Corporate Controller. The Corporate Controller needs to be able to delegate projects in some cases in their entirety, and in some cases parts of projects to the AC. The end product quality should be such that the Corporate Controller can review it and, in most cases, use it as is
  • Room to grow As the business continues to grow so will the opportunity and breadth of the role. Ideal candidate has the desire and capacity to take on additional responsibilities over time

Qualifications and Experience

  • 8+ years of experience who has worked in a manufacturing environment within the food industry
  • Professional background within accounting/controlling roles, ideally in a manufacturing organization, within a growing company with revenues of $100M or more
  • Bachelors degree with business related concentration
  • Good interpersonal & communication skills (oral and written) and ability to interact and communicate effectively with employees at all levels
  • Sophisticated system user with emphasis on Excel ERP SQL and reporting
  • Proficient in numerical and financial statement information
  • Financial and business acumen
